助記提示
1. ransom 是由 redeem 的名詞形式 redemption 經由古法語逐步縮略、變體而來。
2. 演變的大致過程:redemption => red-empt-ion => *re-emt-on => ra-ens-on => raenson => ranson => ransom. (-ee- => -ae- => -a-).
3. 或者簡潔過程:*re-emt-on => r-ans-om => ransom.
4. 諧音“來贖媽,來贖母” --- 媽媽被綁架了,拿錢來把媽媽贖回去。

英文詞源
- ransom
- ransom: [13] Heavily disguised, ransom is the same word ultimately as redemption. It was borrowed from Old French ransoun, which, much weathered over the centuries, was descended from Latin redemptiō, source of English redemption. The etymological notion underlying the word is thus of money paid to ‘redeem’ or rescue a hostage.
=> redemption - ransom (n.)
- c. 1200, "sum paid for the release of a prisoner or captured man," from Old French ranson (Modern French rançon), earlier raenson "ransom, redemption," from Latin redemptionem (nominative redemptio) "a redeeming," from redimere (see redeem).
- ransom
- early 14c., from ransom (n.). Related: Ransomed; ransoming.
