來自lea的拚寫變體。由1921年英國業餘考古學家Alfred Watkins杜撰出來的一個詞，他在研究英國的古文化遺址的時候偶然發現這些遺址可以約略連成一條線，因此假想出一個名詞ley line. 隨後該發現引起世界各地考古學家的極大興趣。但後來證實，這一假設就類似於計量經濟學，給予足夠多的數據，很容易就能構造出一些假說，但往往經不住推敲。
